# Glossary

Terms used in Rhino Sync and this documentation.

**Central file**\
The shared `.3dm` file on a network drive or in Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox. It holds the team's latest synchronized model.

**Collaborate**\
Start or join a session on a central file. See [Collaborate](/collaboration/collaborate.md).

**Collab folder**\
The `_collab` folder Rhino Sync creates next to a central file on a network drive. See [Network Drive](/collaboration/collaborate/collaboration-storage/network-drive.md#the-collab-folder).

**Edit conflict**\
When Rhino Sync undoes your change because a teammate holds the object, or it's outdated. See [Edit conflicts](/collaboration/edit-conflicts.md).

**Live preview**\
A display-only preview of a teammate's edits before they synchronize. See [Live Previews](/collaboration/live-previews.md).

**Local copy**\
Your personal copy of the central file. You always work in it. Rhino Sync deletes it when collaboration ends.

**Object in use**\
An object a teammate changed and hasn't synchronized yet. Only they can change it until they synchronize.

**Outdated**\
An object a teammate synchronized after your last reload. Reload before you change it.

**Reload**\
Bring teammates' synchronized changes into your local copy. See [Reload](/collaboration/reload.md).

**Session**\
Everyone collaborating on the same central file.

**Synchronize**\
Write your changes into the central file and release your objects. See [Synchronize](/collaboration/synchronize.md).

**User name**\
Your name in a session. It must be unique in the team. See [Settings](/reference/settings.md).
