# Rhino Sync Panel

A tour of the Sync panel, with every button, list and indicator.

The **Sync** panel is where you collaborate. It shows who is in the session, the log, the chat and your connection.

The panel opens when Rhino starts, docked next to **Layers**. If you closed it, run `RhinoSync`.

| Control                  | What it does                                                                                                           |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Colour dot               | Your colour. Click it to pick the colour your teammates see.                                                           |
| User name                | Your Rhino Sync user name. Change it in [Settings](/reference/settings.md).                                            |
| **Collaboration Status** | Opens [Collaboration Status](/collaboration/collaboration-status.md).                                                  |
| **Session Settings**     | Opens [Session Settings](/reference/settings.md#session-settings), the options shared by everyone on the central file. |
| **Settings**             | Opens [Settings](/reference/settings.md).                                                                              |
| **About**                | Shows the installed version.                                                                                           |
| **Help**                 | Opens this documentation.                                                                                              |
| **Open in a new window** | Opens the toolbar in its own window.                                                                                   |

## Toolbar

| Button                        | What it does                                                                       |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Collaborate**               | Starts or joins a session. See [Collaborate](/collaboration/collaborate.md).       |
| **End Collaborate**           | Leaves the session. See [End Collaboration](/collaboration/end-collaboration.md).  |
| **Reload**                    | Gets your teammates' synchronized changes. See [Reload](/collaboration/reload.md). |
| **Synchronize**               | Shares your changes. See [Synchronize](/collaboration/synchronize.md).             |
| **Live preview broadcasting** | Opens [Live Previews](/collaboration/live-previews.md).                            |

The dot on **Live preview broadcasting** shows your broadcast state:

* Grey: broadcasting is off.
* Green: broadcasting is on, but you aren't collaborating.
* Red: you are broadcasting live previews.

## Users

Lists everyone in the session. See [Users and colours](/collaboration/users-and-colours.md).

## Log

Shows what Rhino Sync did, such as `Reloading 12 objects` or `[14:02] Tomas synchronized`. The log keeps the last 100 lines. Click **Reset log** to clear it.

## Chat

Sends messages to everyone in the session. See [Sync Chat](/collaboration/sync-chat.md).

## Connection

The line at the bottom shows your connection to the server:

| Text              | Meaning                                                                     |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `connected`       | Connected. Edits are checked as you work.                                   |
| `reconnecting...` | Connection dropped. Rhino Sync is reconnecting and keeps your edits queued. |
| `connection lost` | Rhino Sync can't reach the server.                                          |
| `disconnected`    | You aren't collaborating.                                                   |

## Separate windows

Click **Open in a new window** on **Users**, **Log** or **Chat** to open that area in its own window. Drag the dotted handles between areas to resize them.

The macOS panel has the same areas as on Windows, with these differences:

* The header buttons sit in the first row. The toolbar buttons and the live preview dot sit in the second row.
* The synchronize button's tooltip reads **Sync**.
* The log area is called **Logs**. Its clear button is **Clear log**.
* **Users**, **Logs** and **Chat** can't open in separate windows.
* In **Chat**, press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line.
